1. How to Find Your Ring Size at Home

Not knowing your ring size is one of the most common reasons people hesitate to buy jewelry online. But finding your ring size at home is simpler than most people think. You do not need to visit a jeweler or order a ring sizer tool in the post. With a strip of paper, a pen, and a ruler, you can measure your ring size accurately in under five minutes.

At Silvora Carats, we offer three methods for measuring your ring size at home. All three are reliable. Use whichever works best for your situation - or use two of them to double-check your result before placing your order.

Method 1 - The Paper Strip Method (Most Popular)

This is the easiest way to find your ring size at home without any special tools. All you need is a thin strip of paper, a pen, and a ruler.

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper
Cut a strip of paper roughly half an inch wide and 3 inches long. A strip of string, dental floss, or thin ribbon works equally well if you don't have paper to hand.

  2. Wrap it around the base of your finger
Wrap the paper snugly around the base of the finger where you plan to wear the ring. Make sure it is sitting at the exact spot - not too close to the knuckle and not too loose. The paper should feel snug but still comfortable. You should be able to slip it off without force.

  3. Mark the point where the paper overlaps
With a pen, mark the exact point where the paper meets itself and forms a complete circle. Then slide the paper strip off your finger.

  4. Measure the length in millimetres
Lay the strip flat on a hard surface and measure from the end of the paper to your pen mark using a ruler. Measure in millimetres for accuracy. This number is your inner circumference.

  5. Find your size in the chart below
Compare your inner circumference measurement to the ring size chart below. If your measurement falls exactly between two sizes, always round up to the larger size. A ring that is slightly too big is far more comfortable and safer than one that is too small.

Best time to measure: Measure your ring size at the end of the day when your fingers are at their natural largest. Avoid measuring in the morning or when your hands are cold - cold temperatures cause fingers to shrink, and you may end up sizing too small. If you are between seasons, measure in a room at normal indoor temperature.

Method 2 - Measure an Existing Ring

If you already own a ring that fits perfectly on the finger you are shopping for, you can use it to find your size in seconds. This method is particularly useful when buying a ring as a surprise gift - you can quietly borrow one of the person's rings without them knowing.

  1. Choose the right ring
Select a ring that fits comfortably on the specific finger you want to measure - not just any ring. Rings worn on different fingers, or even the same finger on a different hand, can vary in size.

  2. Place the ring on a flat, well-lit surface
Set the ring flat on a table and look down at it from directly above. You want to measure the inside of the ring, not the outside.

  3. Measure the inner diameter in millimetres
Using a ruler, measure straight across the inside of the ring from one inner edge to the opposite inner edge. This is the inner diameter. Measure in millimetres for accuracy.

  4. Match to the ring size chart
Find your inner diameter measurement in the diameter column of our ring size chart below to identify the corresponding US, UK, or EU ring size.

Ring Size Conversion - Quick Reference

  • What is US ring size 6 in UK?
    US 6 = UK L½ = EU 52
  • What is US ring size 7 in UK?
    US 7 = UK N½ = EU 54
  • What ring size is 17mm diameter?
    17mm inner diameter = approximately US 7 / UK N½ / EU 54
  • What ring size is 16mm diameter?
    16mm inner diameter = approximately US 5.5 / UK K½ / EU 51
  • What is the most common ring size for women?
The most common ring size for women internationally is EU size 52–54, which corresponds to US size 6–7.
  • Can a ring be resized?
Most gold, sterling silver, and platinum rings can be resized by a professional jeweler. Eternity rings and rings set with stones all the way around are exceptions - these are significantly harder to resize.

2. How to Find Your Bracelet Size at Home

Bracelet sizing is one of the most straightforward measurements in jewelry. You simply need to know your wrist circumference and then decide how much extra length called comfort ease, you want the bracelet to have. Comfort ease determines how loosely or closely the bracelet sits on your wrist when wearing it.

Different bracelet styles call for different amounts of ease. A delicate gold chain or diamond tennis bracelet should sit close to the wrist with minimal movement. A charm bracelet or layering chain can afford more ease. A bangle needs to clear the widest part of your hand to be put on and taken off.

How to Measure Your Wrist for a Bracelet

You can measure your wrist accurately using a flexible tape measure or a strip of paper and a ruler. The process takes less than two minutes.

  1. Use a flexible tape measure or a paper strip
A sewing tape measure is the easiest tool. If you do not have one, cut a strip of paper about half an inch wide and 8 inches long. String, ribbon, or a charging cable also work, anything that is flexible and can wrap around your wrist.

  2. Wrap it around your wrist just below the wrist bone
Hold your hand in a natural, relaxed position with your palm facing upward. Wrap the tape measure or paper strip around your wrist at the point just below the wrist bone - the place where a bracelet naturally rests when you wear it. The fit should be snug but comfortable, not pulled tight.

  3. Note your wrist circumference
If using a tape measure, read the measurement directly. If using a paper strip, mark where it overlaps, remove from your wrist, and measure the length with a ruler. Record this number in inches or centimetres. This is your wrist circumference.

  4. Add your comfort ease
Add extra length based on how you want the bracelet to feel (see the comfort ease guide below). The total your wrist circumference plus ease is the ideal bracelet length for you.

  5. Match to the bracelet size chart
Compare your total bracelet length to our size chart below to find your bracelet size: XS, S, M, L, XL, or XXL.

Understanding Comfort Ease

Comfort ease is the extra length added beyond your wrist measurement so the bracelet can move naturally without feeling like it is strapped on. Here is how to choose the right ease for different bracelet styles:

  • ½ inch ease (fitted feel): Best for tennis bracelets, delicate gold chains, and station bracelets. These should sit close to the wrist and move very little. A fitted feel is elegant and intentional.

  • ¾ to 1 inch ease (relaxed everyday feel): Best for charm bracelets, layering chains, and mixed-metal bracelets that you wear every day. This is the most common ease used for women's bracelets.

  • 1 to 1.5 inches ease (loose, layering style): Best for bracelets designed to drape, stack in multiples, or be worn together with other bracelets. This extra room helps the pieces move and layer naturally without tangling.

  • Bangles and solid cuffs: For bangles, measure across the widest part of your hand, your knuckles with your fingers held together. This is the widest point your hand needs to pass through when putting the bangle on. Most bangles have an inner circumference of 7.5 to 8 inches to accommodate this.

Not sure how much ease to add?
Use ¾ of an inch as your default. This is the most popular ease for women's bracelets and gives a relaxed, comfortable fit that works for most everyday styles. If you prefer a closer, more streamlined look, use ½ inch. If you plan to layer multiple bracelets together, use 1 inch.

3. Necklace Length Guide - How to Choose the Right Necklace Length

Necklace sizing is different from ring and bracelet sizing. There is no single "correct" necklace length the way there is a specific ring size or wrist measurement. Instead, the right necklace length for you depends on three things:

  • Where you want the necklace to fall on your body
  • The necklines you most often wear
  • Whether you plan to wear the necklace on its own or layer it with other pieces

Understanding how different necklace lengths sit on the body — and what outfits and necklines they work best with — makes it easy to choose the right length every time, whether you are shopping for yourself or buying a necklace as a gift.

How to Find Your Necklace Length - Step by Step

There are two simple ways to find the right necklace length for you at home.

Option A - Measure with a Tape Measure or String

  1. Start at the base of your neck
Stand in front of a mirror with your shoulders relaxed and your neck in a natural upright position. Hold the end of a flexible tape measure at the center base of your neck - the point where your neck meets your chest.

  2. Let the tape fall straight down your chest
Allow the tape measure to fall naturally down the center of your chest. Do not pull it tight against your body. Let it drape the way a real necklace would fall.

  3. Stop at the point where you want the necklace to rest
While looking in the mirror, use your other hand to mark the point on the tape where you want the pendant, chain, or lowest point of the necklace to sit on your chest.

  4. Note the measurement
Read the measurement at the point you are pinching. This is the ideal necklace drop length for you. Compare it to the necklace length chart below to find the named length that matches.

Option B - Use an Existing Necklace You Love

  1. Find a necklace that fits the way you like
Pick a necklace from your collection that sits at exactly the right point - one that you feel good wearing. It should be on the finger you want to measure, sitting exactly where you normally wear it.

  2. Lay it flat and measure its full length
Remove the necklace and lay it flat on a table in a straight line. Measure from clasp to clasp using a ruler or tape measure. This gives you the full necklace length in inches or centimetres.

  3. Note the length and use it as your reference
This measurement is your preferred necklace length. Use it as your default when shopping at Silvora Carats. If you want a necklace that sits slightly lower, choose a length 2 inches longer. If you want it to sit slightly higher, choose 2 inches shorter.

How to Find Your Minimum Necklace Length (Choker Baseline)

  1. Wrap a tape measure around the base of your neck
Wrap it snugly but comfortably the way a choker necklace would sit. Note the measurement.

  2. Add 2 inches to that number
This is your minimum workable necklace length the shortest necklace you can comfortably wear without it feeling tight. Any necklace shorter than this will be too tight and uncomfortable.

  3. Use this as your choker baseline
If your neck measures 14 inches, your minimum necklace length is 16 inches. A 16-inch necklace will sit at the collarbone rather than at the base of the neck. For a true choker effect, the necklace needs to be close to but not tighter than your neck circumference.
